How did you find yoga? What inspired you to start a practice?

When I had my daughter within two weeks I thought “no way I can handle this,” so I decided to try yoga. Hot yoga attracted me because SF is so cold and I also loved the intensity. After my first class I was dazed and couldn’t find my car, but I felt so good! Once I started practicing consistently I realized that it teaches me to be present and patient, both qualities that don’t come naturally to me.

So you came to 104 classes from January to June, where do you see the practice working?

I do yoga at least one time a day and two hours or more is ideal. I have scattered jobs so I have plenty of time to schedule my yoga. It’s a huge priority for me and when I don’t prioritize it I don’t feel as good I get cranky and I’m not enjoyable to be around. I used to struggle a lot when I practiced and a teacher said “when you surrender your at the most powerful” and I had an out of body experience and it landed, all I had to do is surrender. My impression of surrendering was giving up so I would fight everything and everyone, but in that moment I realized that surrendering is much different than giving up.

Why Baptiste Yoga?

I had never tried Baptiste Yoga before I landed at BYSF. My daughter goes to school next door and I saw people carrying mats around and then I found BYSF.  The community is what keeps me coming. Because I live in the neighborhood I see a lot of parents or people I just seeing walking their dogs around. It allows me to get to know people more.
